(New Exclusive Interview) Jay Von Talks Music With Vintage Media Group

1. How long have you been creating music?

About 12 maybe 13 years now.

2. Breakdown your style and sound?

That’s hard to do to be honest. I mean my style is like water. My sound is often spoke about in a retro sense. I still create music in a way most don’t. I still care about the words bruh, straight up. Many have said I don’t sound like your typical Houston artist.

3. What makes your music different from the rest of the music industry?

The love. The passion behind my every word, the time I take to craft a rhyme or it’s scheme or it’s wittiness. I still care, that’s the difference. I still care about lyricism, I still care about social commentary. I still care about the quality of the sonics, quality of the visuals even. All of that is important TO ME. It’s not JUST about making money for me. I love this shit with my whole heart. I RESPECT the game and all those that came before me.

4. How do you feel about the way the music industry is today?

The music INDUSTRY is and will always be corrupt. These people don’t give a fuck about you. You’re a number, a dollar sign, that’s about it. Knowing that, you have to approach this like a business, literally nothing personal. As far as the music aspect goes, it could use a little more love. I’ll leave it at that.

5. Breakdown the concept of your new project?

It’s almost a concept project in a sense because it’s legit like stepping into a time machine and going back a bit. Every beat selected has a direct connection to me and my upbringing. The cover itself is a ode to DJ Clue.

6. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

A father, a leader of my people and wherever I’m at I’ll probably be doing GOD’S work.
