Outrageous, crass, and totally not safe for work – JD Nude may be the best thing to happen to hip hop since the 70s invention of block parties in South Bronx. But even in the face of naysayers and skeptics, nobody can deny that JD Nude brings an entirely new party of his own. A passion for nudity, weed, and cleverly crafted rhymes, the experimental rapper from New York pulls the rug out from traditional hip hop, and proudly struts the concrete floor unclad and fully exposed.

Also known as Johnny Dean, JD Nude’s introduction to music came at an early age. “My family listened to all kinds of music,” he explains. “So I heard classical, jazz, pop… you name it. But when I heard hip hop for the first time in the late 90s I fell in love with it, and haven’t put it down since.”

Raised on a steady diet of Biggie, Big L, Jay-Z, and Joe Budden, JD Nude slowly began writing music of his own, crafting his own beats, developing his own lyrics, and internalizing the rules of the trade with “regular” hip hop music. But as any mastermind will tell you: rules should be learned, but eventually they have to be broken.
“During the past few years I’ve developed a big interest in nudism, as I discovered how great it feels to be clothes free. So eventually I decided, why talk about the stuff everyone is rapping about these days? Why not do my own thing and make songs about what I want, even if it’s unheard of in hip hop?”

His forthcoming EP, The Naked I, out August 10th, gives a stiff middle finger to the rigid confines of the genre, and tracks like “No Gucci No Prada” and “Nude $toner (Clothes Off & Weed On)” are a testament to his nudist/stoner ethos, demonstrating that JD Nude is a man who walks the walk.

And while some may take offense to his NC-17 attitude and see him simply as a firebrand, agitating for the sake of agitation, JD Nude’s underlying philosophy speaks to a core truth.
“It’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin, about body acceptance and being in harmony with nature.”
