Who Is Kuya?

One of the most versatile artists to ever come out of West Palm Beach, Alex Rich better known by his stage name “Kuya” is making his mark on not only his city, but the whole region of South Florida as well. He has a unique way of blending a southern rapping style with vocals that rival that of rapper/singer, Drake, one of his biggest influences. His other inspirations include Bryson Tiller,Pryde, and Roy Woods. His hit singles “Lost in the Sauce” and “I Don’t Know” have spread like wildfire among many fans across South Florida, and have even captured the attention of some local producers and other artists. Kuya’s sound is a refreshing twist to the norm of South Florida, and his success could be the key to putting West Palm Beach on the map, opening the door for many young artists that come after him.

VMG had a moment to sit down with Kuya, to find out who is Kuya really.

1) What keeps you motivate when it comes to your music?

What keeps me motivated when it comes to my music are my experiences. Almost all my music has something to do about my past experiences, or something im going through at this very moment. All my songs have meaning to them.

2) When you think of “Vintage Media Group”, what comes to mind?

I think of a great music blog that really supports and appreciates not only hip-hop but music as a whole.

3) Being that you are from Palm Beach, what is the state of Hip-Hop there? How would you titled your style of music?

Man, Palm Beach is in a good place right now. There’s a lot of talent here for sure. Everyone’s just grinding and doing there thing. I think Wifisfuneral was the one who really started making moves in the city, but now you got more people coming up, and its really motivating to see. My style of music is a little different than what other people are making in the city. I wouldn’t consider myself a rapper because I do more than just rap. I sing as well. Im not to sure what you would call my style of music, but just know its fire haha!

4) With your most recent music single “Deeper” is Crazy NICE, I Really Like It… can you give us some details on how you came up with the song?

Thank you. The song was produced Youngfrenchy808 whose a good friend of mine, and basically he sent over the beat and told me he wanted me to record something to it for a project he was working on. The beat was fire so it didn’t take me long to write to it at all. I was with my girl at my crib when I was writing the song and i guess i was in an affectionate mindset, and that’s where the love element comes to play in the song.

5) Where can your fans & supporters find you online? Via Twitter, Facebook, etc.?

6) Who are some of your influences?

I think my biggest influence in my life is my family for sure. They are mad supportive with what I do, and I know they want to see me succeed. My biggest influence when it comes to music has to be Elvis. My dad put me on to him when I was pretty young, so I basically grew up listening to him and he’s for sure my favorite artist till this day. I still listen to him on a regular basis.

7) Any Last Remarks?

I just want to thank everyone who listens and supports my music because I just don’t make music for myself. I make it for you guys to enjoy. Also be on the lookout for a new project I’m dropping later this year with my homie ChefKreyol. Its gonna be special!
