Putting together music from the label’s clients and artist alongside reaching out to other New York City artist, The Gold Sound mixtape series is perfect for any music lover looking to discover new music in the New York City area.

VMG had a moment to catch up Gold Exceptions to talk about the new installment from the “Gold Sound” series titled “The Gold Sound 2”.

1) What keeps you motivate when it comes to your music?

Staying motivated isn’t one of the hard sectors of being in this music business as there is so many things that will give you that drive you need such as seeing another artist shine when you know you deserve that spotlight, and being surrounded by like-minded people is a great boost of motivation.
Our label Gold Expectations, is a more like a family and we aim to motivate each and every person on a daily basis through sharing ideas or just giving real criticism.

2) When you think of “Vintage Media Group”, what comes to mind?

Vintage Media Group is definitely a platform we needed to reach as it’s known for presenting and displaying some of the talented music makers of the world as well as maintaining a true to life fan base that is heavily interested in music of all kinds.

3) Being that you are from New York, what is the state of Hip-Hop there? How would you titled your style of music?

In New York City, the state of Hip-Hop is often looked at like a barrel of crabs. By that I mean it’s hard for another artist to shine in New York due to the insecurities of the surrounding community. It’s not often that New York supports New York, they rather feed off the vibes from another state instead of supporting the hometown music. It’s very challenging but to say the least the realest music is going to come from New York.

4) With your most recent music project “The Gold Sound 2” is FRESH… Can you give us some details on how you came up with the project?

Listen To The The New Project Here: http://www.goldexpectations.com/thegoldsound2

I personally came up with #TheGoldSound idea years ago, but needed the right artist and material to pull forward with it. I started with creating a official Spotify playlist titled #TheGoldSound which gave certain artist a chance to shine if our label liked the music. We would also surround the playlist around music that defines the label’s meaning musically and displayed our direction. After doing great with the spotify playlist, I figured it was time to release the mixtape series. Instead of using main stream artist we went into the crates of our own artist and clients and we released the first edition of The Gold Sound in November. We delivered roughly about 100,000 streams across all streaming platforms as of 12/18/2016. The meaning of #TheGoldSound is basically more talent and less gimmicks so if you come across our mixtape series or playlist you already know your going to tuned into some great music that will motivate you, make you dance, or either make you question life it’s self.

5) Where can your fans & supporters find you online? Via Twitter, Facebook, etc.?

Our label is easy to find on Social Media our Twitter and Instagram handle is the same @ReachForGold and you can personally find me on Social Media under @DuriceThompson on twitter and @GoldExpectations on instagram.
Our main website www.GoldExpectations.com

6) Who are some of your influences?

Our label is mainly influenced by the growth and success Bad Boy Entertainment had in the early 90’s carrying on into the 2000’s, that foundation and dream helped us ignite our label and begin getting our footprints in the sand. Not to say we want to be just like them, but we are aiming to be better.

7) Any Last Remarks?

I would like to personally the my co-owner Kiante Robinson for sticking with me throughout the growth and creation of the Gold Expectations label, I want to thank my Mother for the on-going support and thank you to all the small haters that continue to motivate us as a unit. We won’t be going anywhere no time soon, get used to seeing that GX logo everywhere. You can try and break us down but you only adding fuel to the fire. Thanks for everything and all the support Vintage Media Group !
