Born in St. Louis, Moe Raw’s first love was machines –- he worked in a corkboard basement workshop building BMX bikes, skateboards, electric trains, radio controlled airplanes, and go-karts. A year later he lost all interest in machines. Then music arrived. On a Woolworth’ s denim-colored -suitcase phonograph, he heard Kiss on LP, Kansas, and the twangy Hawaiian luau album his grandmother gave him for Christmas. The conclusions he would draw from music reached beyond his mechanical experiments.

He now worked to create music—fashioning a guitar out of cardboard, broken toys, and fishing line as a child. Banished from practicing in his home, Moe Raw learned to play music on a rooftop, imitating passing traffic. A fascination with organic melody, found sounds, and with language drove him into exploration, deep into the city, and deeper into understanding and expression. Moe Raw connects asynchronous values into rolling, hypnotic, and digable tracks that flow from the speakers with a special brew of angular lyricism. Interwoven with insight and street smarts, these tunes are shellacked by toughness and command attention.

Vintage had a moment to check out “Airbags” and holla at Moe Raw about what’s next.

1) When you think of “Vintage Media Group”, what comes to mind?

A ribbon of continuity between the old and the new. Foundation to bleeding edge.

2) Being that you are from Tennessee, what is the state of Hip-Hop there? How would you titled your style of music?

It’s alive and well. There is a lot of fusion here because of the high population of musical entities.  I wouldn’t. “Airbags” is the first single from the CADILLAC Crush EP. Each song pulls from different dimensions. When you hear the band, The Wealth, you’ll hear yet another vocabulary. The Wealth is sick. The quill of many inks. Our approach is “Vibration is vibration, how can we bend it this week?” Who is the strongest wizard? The one with the most Kung Fu. All that I can really say is that it smells like Black people.

3) With your most recent single “Airbags” is FLY… Can you give us some details on how you came up with that song?

I sat on the bank of Crystal Lake and played an MPC like a bass guitar while thinking about old cars with variable ride height. There was a salmon baked in hoisin sauce involved, as well.

4) Where can your fans & supporters find you online? Via Twitter, Facebook, etc.?

I express myself virtually through the ‘Gram. Mercury Moses is my nom de pixel.

5) Who are some of your influences?

Too many to pick favorites. Assume the greats in all fields. Art inspires music inspires style inspires architecture, etc… I inhale it all and breath the resultant fire.

6) Any Last Remarks?

Thank you for your hospitality and we hope that you enjoy our fine products.
