Canton, Ohio Own Jean P Sit Down With VMG And Explains To Us Why He Can Easily Be “The Hometown Hero.”

What are the stages in your writing process? My writing process is motivated by the music. I can listen to a beat and just come up with a concept if the sounds are right or it’s a dope sample. Plus my passion is in writing so that helps me out a lot. The process builds off of my motivation.

What do you think of your earlier music, and what progress has came from then to now? My earlier music is hard to listen to because I sound so much different but I tell myself we all had to start from somewhere. If you listen to my first album and my most recent project you see my growth as a person and an MC. That’s the main thing I want people to notice. If you keep growing as an artist people will stick around. That’s love.

Do you remember who your first inspiration was? The first inspiration in my life was my uncle Jerry. He started off in a local rap group and seeing him perform made me proud and inspired. I always wanted to be like my uncle when it came to that. He is definitely a father figure and a friend to me. We fight and argue on the business tip but come together as a family and get past that. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without him.

How did you get started with Hip Hop? I started with Hip-Hop around 8th grade. That was the year I spit my first rhyme for my classmates for a homework assignment. I was nervous but at that point I knew Hip-Hop was my passion and gift in my future.

What is your favorite album of all time? Peoples Instinctive Travels and Paths of Rhythm by A Tribe Called Quest

What is your ultimate goal at the end of your career? My goal is to see the world and get the chance to share my music with others. I have a few listeners and followers overseas it’s crazy. People in London really dig me. I always wanted to go there and do a show. They appreciate underground music over there more than the US.

What draws you to Hip-Hop in the first place? The culture, the sounds, the style, the swag and the history draws me to Hip-Hop.

What comes to mind when you hear Vintage Media Group? A website that supports the true essence of Hip-Hop.

How did you connect with Vintage Media Group? Twitter. VMG contacted me and really dug the album and wanted to do an interview. It’s really dope. I like doing interviews.

Nas claims, “hip hop is dead” what is your opinion? If it were dead I wouldn’t have a microphone tattooed on my forearm. (laughing)

How did this collaboration come about? My homie Amor Jones had a joint produced from Lakim. I really liked it and got the contact info. Lakim sent me beats and well…you know the rest. #oppositesattract

What is your favorite song from this album? “Visions”. That song is so real to me because I wrote it about a very special lady. I feel a lot of people can relate to it. Especially for guys who feel passionate about their girl.

What was your inspiration for this album? Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Murs & 9th Wonder, J Dilla & Madlib. All the great MC & Producer duos in Hip-Hop.
