DTFK releases his first video “Palm Trees” off his latest project Arlington Avenue: The Roaring Sixties. In this video he describes memories of his childhood growing up in South Central, California. Stay tuned, according to Freshkid he has more videos off the project coming soon!

VMG had the blessing to sit down with the South Central native, to see what’s new and to talk about his DOPE new music video called “Palm Trees”.

1) What keeps you motivate when it comes to your music?

The response I get from people when they hear my music. Most of the time they wonder why it’s not on the radio or why I haven’t “blowed up” yet. But mainly, its the message that I’m determined to share with the world. And finally, it’s my dream. I’ve been rapping since a kid when I was writing down Ice Cube lyrics to retain the pattern.

2) When you think of “Vintage Media Group”, what comes to mind?

It sounds like some classic and important. A treasured jewel lets say.

3) Being that you are from South Central, what is the state of Hip-Hop there? How would you titled your style of music?

I think the world is finally able to see how diverse we are. And I think I’m speaking mainly for California period. But at one particular time, they wrote us off as just gangster music. However, in South Central we’re breeding some of the dopest lyricist ever. From a list of underground artist on the rise including myself, I would drop names but it’s too many and I wouldn’t want to leave no one out but just remember the Crenshaw District extended clip is loaded. And as far as my style, I call it “Street Conscious” because I’ll make a song called “Non Black Fountain” where i discuss civil rights issues and challenges we still face today but on the other hand make a song like “Palm Trees” where I talk about street politics.

4) With your most recent music video “Palm Trees” is Crazy Fly, I Really Like It… can you give us some details on how you came up with that song?

The song was self explanatory. The blocc I was raised on in South Central is called “Arlington Avenue better known as the “AG Blocc” right in the Rolling Sixty Crip Nayborhood. In fact, the video was actually shot in the same nayborhood and same blocc. However, in the song I just opened up on a part of my traumatic experience growing up there. It was a hunted nightmare that continued to play it my head until I released it to the world. In the song you can hear me talk about an homicide that occurred while I was a kid. The individuals murdered were what we call “Big Homies, OG’s” that I looked up to and learned so much from. As a kid, I actually walked by the house on the “AG” that they were murdered in heading to store for my mother. I seen the yellow tape, homicide detectives, EMT, people all over the place!

5) Where can your fans & supporters find you online? Via Twitter, Facebook, etc.?

6) Who are some of your influences?

In no particular order I’ll give you my top 5… okay top 6. Ice Cube, Nas, 2Pac, Biggie, Jay Z, and 50 cent. Although I was influenced my several artist and hip hop groups.

7) Any Last Remarks?

Don’t expect anyone to do the work for you. If you want to succeed in this business, start by working for yourself, no one will work harder for you then you.
