California’s Cherry-Ilex, a brand encapsulating all that it takes to make high quality music, from song writing to production and engineering, emerge this week with a blissfully smooth and soulful new single.
Seeing the stunning talents of Erica B and Shaunté Daurice step into the spotlight, Where Is Your Love stylishly blends breathy, expressive and emotive vocal qualities, with a partly organic, piano-led soundscape, and an underlying trip-hop aura – resulting in a piece that’s all at once nostalgic and gorgeously refreshing.
From these RnB melodies and the intimacy and longing of the vocals and lyricism, to the absolute warmth and attention to detail showcased throughout the arrangement, the single proves calming and able to connect on a deeper, emotional level. Towards the end, this Gospel-kissed vocal choir adds further hypnotic softness that sees things melt down into a synth-led arena of simplicity, before quietly coming to an end.
You’d be forgiven for wondering if this wasn’t a forgotten hit from a simpler time, but thanks to the personality and authenticity in the vocals and the writing, as well as the crisp, clean finish production-wise, the whole thing is given a fresh lease of life.
Beautifully done, precisely the kind of addictive and enjoyable, uniquely creative and genuine new track we can all appreciate.
