The Air Jordan 12 “Varsity Red” will return in 2016 alongside the Air Jordan 12 “French Blue” and “Cherry”.
The Air Jordan 12 “Varsity Red” was retro’d on October 25, 2003, and retailed for $135. It was the last time we saw these bad boys in OG form, and was followed by a newer version that told the Flu Game story in 2009.
The Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game” that released in 2009 wasn’t exactly like the OG, but a new version of the original Air Jordan 12 Varsity Red and Black. Instead of leather, it featured a nubuck upper with details on the heel signifying the year and points scored by MJ that day.
“June 11, 1997 was the date for Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz, which featured Michael Jordan putting up an epic 38-point performance while suffering what was reportedly “flu-like symptoms.”
As for the OG, these featured an all leather upper and became the “Bred” version of the Air Jordan 12. It was also the exact same model Michael Jordan wore during the 1997 Flu Game, as well as the version that released in stores that year.
