Artistic frustration is nothing new in hip-hop and it seems like Ab-Soul is the latest artist to air out his grievances. Though he’s already dropped an album, the Carson, Calif. native has yet to release a project on the scale of fellow TDE artists Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q. He shared his frustration on Twitter, venting about his bench player status.

“‘Preciate everybody that’s been supporting me for the LONGTERM. I’m tryin man…,” the self-proclaimed Black Lipped Bastard wrote in a tweet earlier today (Feb. 8). He referenced the mantra that’s been the theme for much of his mixtapes and is the tentative title for his next album.

After thanking his fans for their patience, Soulo let off a string of cryptic posts, tweeting, “I’ll be ready when my #’s called.” He lamented his status as the fourth wheel on the Black Hippy bandwagon. “This bench is gettin warm as fucc tho mayne,” he contemplates.

But Ab-Soul attempted to be optimistic about the future and TDE’s game plan for his career, tweeting, “Nonetheless, it’s important to move as a unit. It’s bigger than me. It’s family.” Being that the TDE braintrust are active on Twitter, it was long before a response to Soul’s tweets came from Dangeroo Kipawaa, the CEO of the label, who quoted Ab-Soul’s bench warmer tweet, writing, “when i put u in the game u better be on fire nigga….”

Showing that the two were on the same page, Soul responded by comparing himself with former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford and that he will be productive in whatever role he’s given.
Kipawaa, who seemed to have been swayed by Ab-Soul’s comments, alluded to giving the rapper the green-light. “thats all you had to say….tighten up your j’s because I’m about 2 kall your #…. #TDE lets get it my nigga,” he tweeted.

That statement likely put fans of the wild-haired spit-kicker in a frenzy speculating over how soon they’ll be getting some new material from him.
