Yasiin Bey teamed up with advertising executive Set Free Richardson to launch a new gallery in New York City’s South Bronx neighborhood entitled The Compound.

The forthcoming contemporary art space was inspired by a creative workshop of the same name that Richardson opened back in 2008. The retired rapper will helm the curator role while “Free will run day-to-day operations,” expressed Bey to artnet News. The duo aims to support underrepresented by hosting exhibitions, for the time being, attempting to search for the next big art icon comparable to KAWS, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Futura.

“For me everything is art,” Richardson told the publication. “What often happens is that certain artists don’t get a fair chance, and a lot of galleries don’t accept certain artists. The whole blue-chip world isn’t fair because certain artists that are just as good will never be accepted.”

Official details on The Compound‘s launch are still pending, but stay tuned for updates. In other art news, wndr museum is set to reveal the first-ever Infinity Mirror Room installation by Yayoi Kusama in Chicago.
