The Beastie Boys beat out Eric B. and Rakim and other nominee’s to become 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee’s.

After an announcement made earlier today (December 7) it appears that the Beastie Boys will accomplish something very few Hip Hop acts have and that is to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

MTV News reports that on April 14, 2012 the Beastie Boys, Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and about eight other artists will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Cleveland (home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum).

While the iconic Hip Hop duo Eric B. and Rakim were considered for the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame they unfortunately were not chosen.

Past Hip Hop acts to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame include Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five and Run DMC. In 2007 Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five became the very first Hip Hop act to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Beastie Boys rose to Hip Hop prominence in 1986 with the release of their debut album License To Ill. Well over 20 years after the release of License To Ill and The Beastie Boys have continued releasing new music with this year’s Hot Sauce Committee Part Two being their latest studio album.
