Former Philadelphia 76er Allen Iverson is officially set to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. The point guard joins a list of other notable players of his era, including Yao Ming and Shaquille O’Neal.
Playing from 1996 to 2010, Iverson rounded out his NBA career as an eleven-time All-Star. His other accolades include Rookie of the Year, multi-time league leading scorer, and NBA Most Valuable Player. Iverson averaged 27.6 points per game over the course his career and finished out with roughly 25,000 points in total.
Outside of his legendary skill, Iverson is credited by many as the single-handed merger between hip hop and professional sports. With a unique sense of style and a true-to-self demeanor, Iverson urbanized the league in a way that fans had never seen before. From braids, to the tattoos, to finger sleeves and baggy clothes, Iverson’s style was a staple for youth everywhere.
The 2016 Hall of Fame class is set to be inducted on September 8th in Springfield, Massachusetts.
